Good news. There is a subsidy scheme that may benefit your business, even if you're self-employed. The scheme is called Mijn Cyberweerbare Zaak, from the Digital Trust Center (part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate), and this year €1,000,000 is available once again. A great amount to make your cybersecurity stronger than ever — and you only have to pay half of it yourself.
In this article you'll read what the scheme entails, who it's for, and how to check whether your business qualifies.
What is Mijn Cyberweerbare Zaak?
Mijn Cyberweerbare Zaak is a subsidy scheme that helps small businesses take cybersecurity measures that might otherwise be left behind. The scheme has existed since 2023 and has been successfully reopened several times, precisely because smaller businesses often lag behind on digital resilience, while being an attractive target for cybercriminals.
The subsidy reimburses 50% of the costs for purchasing and implementing one or more cyber resilience measures, up to a maximum of €1,250 per applicant.
Who is the subsidy for?
The scheme is open to:
Self-employed entrepreneurs (zzp)
SME businesses with up to 50 employees and annual turnover up to €10 million
You don't have to be a large company to qualify. Already received a subsidy through this scheme for a specific measure? Then you can't apply for that same measure again.
When can you apply?
The application period runs from Monday 7 September 2026 to 30 November 2026. Note: the €1,000,000 budget is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis — when it's gone, it's gone. Last year the entire budget was allocated within four months, so waiting doesn't pay.
Which measures qualify?
Applications from previous years show that entrepreneurs mainly use the subsidy for:
Secure network access and Wi-Fi
most requested, over a quarter of all applications
Setting up and testing backups
Antivirus software
Cyber awareness training for you and your employees
How do you apply?
You apply in three steps:
Complete the CyberVeilig Check
Complete the CyberVeilig Check for zzp and SME and download your personal action list. This check shows exactly where your business's cyber security can still be improved, and most applicants base their choice of measure on it.
Purchase the measures
Purchase the measures listed on your action list that also appear on the list of eligible measures. Keep invoices and proof of payment safe: they must adequately describe which service was delivered.
Register and submit your application
Register your organisation on MijnNCSC (with eHerkenning or SSOnRijk) and submit your application.
Tip: for multi-year subscriptions you may only claim one year of costs. If you buy a three-year subscription, you count one third of the costs.
